The Baylor College of Medicine - Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Family Medicine Residency is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Our three-year program integrates community and academic, family practice and multispecialty, in a non-competitive culture of cooperation across all disciplines.
We accept six residents per year.

Inpatient service
The family medicine resident service gets the first pick in patients, who must be active patients in the associated surrounding Baylor Scott & White clinics to be considered for admission on the family medicine service.
Outpatient service
On the outpatient side, residents enjoy the variety of patients seen in the family medicine clinic, which leads to a strong clinical foundation. Patient-centered teams help residents manage a panel of patients, and, in the Baylor Scott & White Health system, the patients always have specialists who are willing to consult on them.
Other advantages of the program are the possibility for away rotations to other states or other countries. Also, if residents have an interest in a certain area of medicine, specialty electives are available, including obstetrics and gynecology, urgent care and sports medicine.

There is minimal call for our residents, who cover the family medicine service in shifts. There is a day time team and a night team. Residents also cover the family medicine service in shifts on the weekend, which may be considered call but last less than 24 hours.

Conferences
Noon lectures
The family medicine conference is held twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday starting at noon. Topics are varied and evidence-based, covering the entire spectrum of medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, behavioral science and psychiatry. Lunch is provided.
Afternoon workshops
The second Thursday of the month is set aside for resident business and learning. During this time, the residents have protected time with the chief resident and program director to discuss any burning issues of the day.
This afternoon also includes learning time for workshops like suturing, pulmonary function tests or treadmill testing. On special occasions residents may head over to the simulation center, where residents can practice code situations in a safe but realistic environment.
Following the workshop is a case conference or journal club.

We use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept residency applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from your medical school.

- Three letters of reference from faculty of medical school (or residency/fellowship experience, if applicable)

- USMLE scores (applicants must have passed USMLE or COMLEX steps 1 & 2)
- ECFMG certificate, if foreign medical graduate
